wine  |wīn| noun – an alcoholic drink made from fermented grape juice: She opened a bottle of red wine with her loved ones in Napa! Cheers!

Field and I take an annual Valentine’s Getaway each year with some of our favorite people in the world, Brian and Chrissy Rudman! Last year, we all went to Spain together and had such an incredible time. This year, we planned on staying in the states and scheduled a trip to New York. We thought it would work out perfectly because I had a few tickets to some fashion shows during New York Fashion Week. Sadly, there was a blizzard passing through the east coast and our flights got cancelled. At the very last minute we decided that maybe we should go to the warmer west coast instead, so we switched our tickets and flew away from the snow and headed toward the Napa Valley!

I love to have plans and stay organized, but I’ve had to learn to be open to the unexpected and to go with the flow. We stayed at the beautiful Calistoga Ranch in Napa for a few days. It was such an elegant resort with a vineyard and private lake. It was cozy, romantic and very quiet. A perfect little Plan B Valentine’s getaway! (Auberage du Soleil is also a beautiful resort to stay at in Napa. I highly recommend both!)

To be honest, a part of me was so disappointed that I would not be going to New York, but my husband had a few tricks up his sleeve. He knew that it was supposed to stop snowing during the weekend so he surprised me with a prolonged vacation: Napa to NYC! The best part was that our babies were going to meet us in New York. I was thrilled!

If you know me, you know that I am not a big drinker, but I do enjoy a good glass of wine from time to time. Field and I are definitely not sommeliers, so trying to choose wine can be a little overwhelming. He tends to stick to Italian wines, but it is always good to try new things! We asked the general manager for some good suggestions at Sarocka – The Spring Mountain Estate and he recommended reading The Wine Folly – The Essential Guide to Wine!

When being in this part of the valley, you tend to lose phone service. Thankfully, Snapchat saves posts that fail to upload so you can just upload later when you have service. Make sure to save your videos so you can enjoy them later!

Our favorite things to do in Napa:
Archetype – This restaurant is adorable and so yummy–known for their brunch and lunch menus and fish tacos!

Fleury Estate Winery – This is my personal favorite winery from our time in Napa. It was so intimate and a great experience exploring the vineyard, and learned that they ship in wood from France to make the barrels that hold the wine. Field met the owner at a hotel in Dallas earlier this year and tried his wine. We loved it so much that we had to visit for ourselves.

Farm at Carneros – A cute brunch spot at the end of our trip in Napa. We ate a delicious meal on our way to the airport, and headed straight for New York.

Whenever you find yourself in Napa, raise a toast to the beautiful gift of life that we have all been given! Cheers to new and exciting experiences!
