San Miguel |san-mIgel| [place] Spanish for Saint Michael: She loved her trip to San Miguel.

Hola! I just returned from a wonderful weekend getaway in beautiful, San Miguel! Field and I took a weekend trip to the heart of Mexico to celebrate the wedding of our favorite couples. They were married at the stunning, historic La Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, the current parish church of San Miguel (and one of the most famously photographed churches in Mexico). When you look up the photos, you’ll see why. Stunning!!!

The wedding was a dream. I loved the colors and the Spanish traditions they included in their ceremony. The church where the wedding was hosted is an emblem of the town, located right in the historic cobblestoned center of the city. The goth-like, dramatic towers and courtyard Spanish gardens were absolutely spectacular.

San Miguel is a sophisticated, colonial city, filled with baroque Spanish architecture, colorful art and cultural festivities. The town is adorable. It is filled with organic cafes, small boutiques, art galleries, upscale restaurants and hotels, and a wide variety of bars and nightclubs. A world-class destination, in my opinion. I felt very safe everywhere we went, everything was walking distance and they had great shopping and food options. It’s similar to NYC or Europe in the sense of being able to walk everywhere you want to go. Just wear comfortable walking shoes (flats and sneakers are best option for cobblestone streets), and carry a tote to carry all the items you’ll pick up while you’re out! If you’re interested in shopping, you must visit: Recreo (where I purchased a traditional Houndstooth Cape), Armour Jewelry, and Hoja Santa Boutique (for a perfect red jumper – eee!).

We enjoyed exploring the city for historic landmarks like the Terraza Trinitate and finding new places to shop and eat. Some of my favorite restaurants were: Quince, Nectar Casa de Te en Camino Silvestre, Bovine (loved the green chairs here), Rosewood (for breakfast with an AMAZING view of the entire city), and “The Restaurant” San Miguel Del Allende for the rehearsal dinner was INCREDIBLE.

Victor Hugo planned and decorated the most beautiful rehearsal and dinner and all the wedding party components like the traditional San Miguel de Allende callejoneada, where guests take a stroll around the main square, accompanied by a stunning mariachi, a pair of giant paper mache bride and groom, and a flower loaded burro to make the way to the wedding banquet within walking distance. Victor Hugo and business partner Alma Caballero (of AlmaVictor Events) have a great sense of local traditions, attention to detail and the top of the line culinary expertise, not to shadow Victor Hugo’s floral creations and decor ideas.

He actually helped with my wedding in Laredo, and is a great friend of mine who now lives in San Miguel (available for custom/guided visits). He is an extremely gifted wedding and event planner–you won’t have to worry about a single detail! (If you’re interested, you can contact him at: victorhugogarcia956@gmail.com, and just tell him Sabrina sent you!)

We booked the beautiful, Hotel Matilda for our stay and felt so welcomed and relaxed there. They had a great spa, and a relaxing, upscale atmosphere all around. I give it 5 stars, and would recommend it to anyone planning a visit. I would love to come back to San Miguel for the Festival of Wine they host each year in August. I will definitely be planning a trip back!

XO-

Sabrina
