ball |bôl| noun a formal social gathering for dancing: She wore a beautiful black ball gown to the party.

We recently celebrated an incredible 90 years of mentoring relationships for at-risk children and youth at the Big Black Tie Ball with the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program. Field and I were thrilled to be this year’s chairs for the event, and we want to say a special “thank-you” to last year’s chairs, the Hollman’s, for their incredible support and for believing in us to lead the gala this year.

It has been an honor to serve this incredible organization, and I was overjoyed to have heard we raised over half a million dollars that evening, which will increase the number of children served in Dallas in 2018. The night could not have been more special with the wonderful staff speakers, the incredible meal and a performance by Broadway and television star, Matthew Morrison. We were joined by the Dallas District Attorney, Faith Johnson, and honored our first female Chief of Police, and former Big Sister of 9 years Renee Hall. It was beautiful to see the members of our Dallas community come together to celebrate the real-life heroes making a difference in the lives of at-risk children and youth within our very own city of Dallas, Texas.

There are individuals within this organization who have dedicated their lives to providing healthy mentoring relationships for children facing adversity and challenges. As a mother, I know just how important it is for young minds to have someone to look up to–someone to challenge and encourage them through the difficulties of life. Field and I believe so strongly in this mentoring program and we stand behind the wonderful leaders, staff and mentors in the hopes of reaching more children with the love, hope and relationships they need to thrive in life.

I believe success without purpose is meaningless. To me, true, lasting success is being a blessing to others and loving people unconditionally. Every resource God gives to us–whether that be our time, our talents, our finances, our influence–is a resource we have to offer a world in need. This organization is giving kids hope through mentoring–and ultimately, making the world a better place.

I want to thank every person who came out to celebrate the 90 wonderful years Big Brothers Big Sisters has been with us. Each person who gave financially and those who give of their time each week are making a difference in the lives of the beautiful children they serve. I thank God for every heart behind this organization to mentor, love and serve those in need. I thank God for those who give of their time, money and resources to keep this ministry alive and thriving.

If you would like to give to or serve the children in need within our city, please check out the Big Brothers Big Sisters North Texas website here!

Here’s to 90 more wonderful years!!
