Our Vancouver Trip

Vancouver |vanˈko͞ovər|1 a city and port in British Columbia, in southwestern Canada, on the mainland opposite Vancouver Island; pop. 578,041 (2006). It is the largest city and chief port in western Canada.

We took a direct flight from DFW to Vancouver, British Columbia with our kids, Field’s parents and brother a few weeks ago to escape the early Texas summer heat. Field’s cousin was getting married just north of Vancouver on a lake in Whistler, and we decided this would be a great time for the whole family to get together to enjoy beautiful Canada!

Where We Stayed
The Whistler resort area is just north of Vancouver in British Columbia. They are best known for their skiing, hotels, restaurants and golf courses–and are widely regarded as one of the top four-season resorts in North America (for good reason).

The Whistler area is absolutely charming with a blend of the quaintness of an alpine village and the amenities of an urban city. We stayed at the Four Seasons Residences. This location is tucked away in the mountains, surrounded by green meadows with a very European-esque charm.

Touring the City
There is great shopping in the Whistler Village. I found a new store that I LOVE called, TNA by Aritzia. The line was inspired by a surf trip to Venice Beach and is fun, playful and  full of energy. I found this Lakeview Hat while I was there, and wore it all around the city (you can see it in some of my photos!). Everything I found in the store was on trend, high quality and a great value. Definitely a stop of mine whenever I return!

We played golf with the family at the Nicklaus North Golf Course designed by Jack Nicklaus. This is a beautiful course surrounded by breathtaking views of the lakes and mountains that enclose it. Baby Field loves golfing with his Dad, and it was so nice to be able to be outside with the kids and enjoy the cooler temperatures while on the golf course.

The Peak 2 Peak Gondola at the Whistler Blackcomb had beautiful walking trails that we enjoyed with our kids and family. I loved being able to wear my warmer, layered clothing while we were out exploring the mountains, trails and alpine meadows. The scenery in this area was so beautiful!

Our Favorite Restaurants
We enjoyed lunch at the Garibalid Lift Company while we overlooked the base of the Whistler Mountain on the top of the Gondola entrance. They had a stunning view with friendly staff and great food. We were only there for the afternoon, but they said they have live bands and fun music in the evenings for the skiing and biking crowds. Would be a fun place to check out if you’re in the area!

For dinner, we went to Sachi Sushi where we enjoyed fresh sushi and sake from Chef Toshiyuki. We loved the evening atmosphere here and the dining experience. Staff was very friendly and the food was authentic and delicious.

We also visited Araxi Restaurant and Oyster Bar, because I can’t be near the water without having some fresh seafood! We enjoyed fresh oysters shucked by experienced oystermen while they explained subtle differences in the oysters brought to us from the dozens of varieties available. I loved the sleek design of this location with the stainless steel and marble countertops (layouts that speak to the interior-designer in me, and give me creative ideas for future Mint Office spaces!).

Overall, we loved our trip to Vancouver. I enjoyed the beautiful scenery, spending time with my kids and husband and the beautiful celebration of a new addition to our extended family. Thankful for vacation, but always good to be back home in Dallas!
