success |səkˈsɛs|noun [ mass noun ]1 the accomplishment of an aim or purpose: the president had some success in restoring confidence.• the attainment of fame, wealth, or social status: the success of his play.

I was actually a little surprised that the dictionary has a solid definition for success. I feel success is ever moving, ever changing and always growing. Do we ever actually arrive? When do you actually become, “successful”?

Success will look different for each individual person. To some, it is the amount of money they bring in each year. To others, it might be the kind of car they drive, or the brand of clothes they wear. Still, to others, it might be landing their dream job or marrying the right person and creating the “perfect” family.

No matter what your definition of success is, know that success will never be a final destination. I believe every human needs to define success for themselves, and continue to set goals and pursue greater things for their lives, for the rest of their lives.

Goal Setting
Success is never an accident. It is always on purpose. Success is a direct result of goal setting, hard work and determination to stick to your goals–even when things get difficult. What are the most important things in your life? What do you wake up each day thinking about? Make plans for your life surrounding those things, but allow God to direct your steps daily. (Proverbs 16:9)

The most important things in life to me are: my relationship with the Lord, my husband, my kids/our family and our business and ministry. I define success in these areas for myself, and allow my definitions to change as I continue to learn, grow and achieve my goals.

Success in my marriage means staying faithful to the commitment that Field and I made to one another when we got married. That means, encouraging my husband when he is discouraged, praying for him, respecting him each day, speaking positively of him and to him and enjoying everyday life with my best friend.

Success with my kids and family means creating an at-home atmosphere that is full of love, mutual respect and joy. It means raising them to be loving and respectful of themselves and others. It is encouraging them to pursue their dreams. It is praying together every night before going to bed, and daily introducing them to the God that I love and serve through my words and actions.

Success in my business means enjoying going to work every single day. I love our business and the people we work with and for. I love that we are able to bless others through our Mint Dentistry charities and causes. I enjoy watching Field push his employees to work with excellence and diligence each day. I love setting new goals and working alongside my husband and team to accomplish them. True success is loving what you do, no matter how much money you are making!

A Solid Foundation
For Christians, success often depends on the state of your marriage, family and personal relationship with Christ. God encourages us to put Him first in everything we do, and then He will provide all that we need.

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” Matthew 6:33-34

The more grounded you are in Christ, the more fruitful you will be in your relationships, business and family.

Positive Thinking
You have to think positively about where you are and where you want to go in life, and don’t allow what you are dealing with to define who you are. You are not your past or present circumstances. War against whatever obstacles you encounter until you are able to break through to get to where you are going.

Your history is a stepping stone to your destiny. Don’t trip over it. Be intentional about your dreams and understand that no one is successful on accident. Success is intentional!

I love the book, “Destiny: Step into Your Purpose” by T.D. Jakes. This is a great read for anyone who needs a little encouragement in finding their purpose in life. God has a calling on each of your lives and wants you to make a difference in our world. This book is a great reminder of that!

I believe everyone needs a dream in their heart that is bigger than themselves. Pursue great things in your life and continue to love and serve the Lord and people in all that you do.

That is great success.
