golf |ɡälfɡôlf| noun 1 a game played on a large open-air course, in which a small hard ball is struck with a club into a series of small holes in the ground, the object being to use the fewest possible strokes to complete the course: He loves the game of golf.

Writing today, to all of my fellow golf wives. If you husband golfs as much as mine does, you’ll appreciate this post (and he will appreciate the suggestions!).

Golf plays a big role in the Harrison household. Field golfs several times each week and finds courses to play at in every city and country we travel to for business or vacation—finding favorites in Costa Rica, Spain, Mexico, and California to name a few. Even Baby Field is picking up a love for the game, practicing his swing at various driving ranges with his dad.

Field loves to golf—and I love it when he golfs. When he gets time to play he is happier, less stressed, and things just seem to run more smoothly at home.

Field uses golf as a way to brainstorm and strategize about new ideas to implement at MINT. I always advise women not to stop their husbands from having a sport or activity that they enjoy playing a few times a week. I would even encourage them to go! Men need these activities to think, to brainstorm, and to de-stress from their jobs. (And we need our husbands distressed and happy in the home LOL.)

Plus, as wives, this gives us time to ourselves each week to have activities of our own. I think it’s very healthy to have your own hobbies and interests apart from your spouse. It makes you enjoy your time together that much more!

So, from my husband to yours, here are Field’s Top 10 Golf Courses Worldwide (and this man knows his courses):

  1. Iron Horse is a private golf club located in Whitefish, Montana just outside of Yellowstone National Park. Iron Horse prides itself on its Tom Fazio designed 18-hole course consisting of bluegrass fairways and smooth bent grass greens. The entire course is surrounded by a forest of fir and tamarack trees on the Montana Rockies and a backdrop of Whitefish Lake.

  1. Monterey Peninsula Country Club is one of the most beautiful courses Field has ever played, located in Pebble Beach, California. They are proudly recognized as a 5-Star Platinum Club with courses totaling 13,963 yards of Pacific rimmed greens and natural desert sand dunes. They are nationally recognized year after year as one of the top in the nation and have steadily ranked as #65 on America’s 100 Greatest Golf Course List in Golf Digest Magazine from 2016-2018. And the reason it’s Field’s favorite? It never feels too busy.

  1. Pebble Beach Golf Course is another favorite course in Pebble Beach, California and the home of the upcoming 2019 U.S. Open on June 13-16, 2019. Pebble Beach has been the host of 12 memorable major championships with courses that are surrounded by Californian cliffs and resting on the blue waters of Stillwater Cove. Field enjoys playing near water and the coastal Californian weather can’t be beat.

  1. Dallas National Golf Club is a Dallas favorite designed by Tom Fazio quoted as saying, “If Dallas National were the only course I ever designed, I feel I would have had a great career.” This is one of Field’s favorites because it is so close to home, located right of Knoxville St. in Dallas. The course is well kept and the staff is friendly. A beautiful course to play if you are ever in the Dallas area!

  1. BIGHORN Golf Club is located in Palm Desert, California with an Arthur Hills-designed Mountains Course and Tom Fazio-designed Canyons Course, making for two of golf’s most legendary 18-hole courses. We love this location because of the modern architecture and majestic mountain views.

  1. Preserve Golf Club on the Saint Lucia Preserve near Caramel Bay, California is another beautiful course. This ranchero styled course is located on land that has been protected by the conservation community for 18 centuries as a home for the wildlife and natural resources that are found there. They are dedicated to preserving and protecting this area surrounded by the beautiful Santa Lucia Mountains as a relaxing and peaceful place to play.

  1. Lakewood Country Club is another Dallas favorite and home of the North Texas PGA Championship and the State Amateur in June 2017. Founded in 1912, this 18-hole golf course has since been remodeled with a $6 million dollar renovation in 2014. We enjoy spending time at the clubhouse and playing the course surrounded by the Dallas skyline.

  1. Spyglass Hill Golf Course located in Monterey Bay, California is one of the most respected courses in the world designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. Known as the #1 public course in America and for its spectacular sand-splashed 18-hole golf course surrounded by an oceanfront view. This is one of Field’s favorite courses in California.

  1. CASCATA is Italian for “waterfall,” and this course is aptly named from the 418-foot waterfall cascading over the mountains surrounding the practice ground. The water flows through the course creating a tranquil and peaceful experience. With stunning vistas, green fairways, and multiple lakes and streams, this Las Vegas course is an oasis for any avid golfer.

  1. Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club is an 18-hole course located in Riviera Maya, Mexico, surrounded by ancient ruins, lush jungle vegetation, and the beautiful Caribbean Sea. Field played this course on our last trip to Mexico and loved the scenery the most. He said it was like walking through a garden. No wonder it was ranked the 7th Best Course in Mexico by GOLFWEEK Magazine in 2012.

I’ve golfed several of these courses myself and can attest to their beauty, cleanliness, and the overall quality of the grounds. (Though I only play about 9 holes with him when I come along, and then just ride along in the golf cart for the rest of the game LOL.)

Let me know your favorite courses if they didn’t make this list. We would love to try them on our next trip!

XO-

Sabrina
