ice |ʌɪs| noun 1 [ mass noun ] frozen water, a brittle transparent crystalline solid: Her hands were as cold as ice.

It doesn’t get below freezing very often in Dallas, Texas and we rarely get snow and ice for Christmas. But each year, at the Texas Gaylord, they create a truly magical winter wonderland with over two-million pounds of hand carved ice sculptures!

This year, we took our family and nieces and nephews to the Gaylord to experience ICE for the first time. The courtyard was completely decorated with tinsel, powdered snow and colorful ornaments, and they had cinnamon roasted nuts and snacks while you waited in line to enter the exhibit.

The kids were so excited, we could hardly keep them quiet in line! But just as we were about to get fitted for our heavy blue coats for the 9 degree chill, Camila began falling asleep in Field’s arms (she actually slept through the entire thing!).

Camila might have missed it, but baby Field was taking in every moment. He examined every ice sculpture, and went down the two-story ice slides with his cousins. They must have been so cold, but they were having so much fun they didn’t seem to notice!

My favorite exhibit was the full nativity made of crystal clear ice at the very end. It looked so majestic and tranquil. But by this time, we were all so cold we were ready to get back outside to the warmer weather!

We ended the evening with hot cup of cocoa to help us unthaw from our snowy adventure. The kids had rosy cheeks and couldn’t stop smiling. Camila finally woke up as we were heading out the door, having no idea what she had missed.

Who knows, maybe she was dreaming of a winter wonderland of her own the whole time. I will take her again next year to see!

Stay warm!
