breakfast |ˈbrekfəst| noun a meal eaten in the morning, the first of the day: They had pancakes at breakfast with Jesus.

This Saturday, a few of our Equipped by Faith ladies went out with our family to serve our Dallas homeless community alongside one of my favorite organizations, SoupMobile.

SoupMobile is a local food kitchen serving more than 250,000 meals per year to the homeless in the Dallas metroplex. But they also provide shelter, job assistance, counseling, clothing, and resources—all while offering the message of hope through Christ (in their first-ever SoupMobile church community!).

I always look forward to spending time with the Soup Man, David Timothy. He is so full of life and love–serving the homeless 365 days a year! David founded this organization in 2003 with one simple, biblical calling from Jesus in John 21:17 saying, “Feed My Sheep.” He took this calling very literally and has impacted the lives of countless thousands because of it. Mine included.

This time, SoupMobile hosted a pancake breakfast in honor of Easter weekend and we joined them to help stir up pancake batter, flip sausages, hand out plates, and serve however we could. Field and I brought a message of hope and encouragement to our friends while they were eating inside their church building. I was so honored by their response to our stories of learning to trust in God’s faithfulness in our lives.

I brought Baby Field along so he could serve with us. As we drove up to the SoupMobile church building, he saw the large group of people standing outside waiting for the doors to open, and in awe, he quietly said, “I’ve never seen homeless people before…” This statement made me realize how important it is for us to expose our children to the needs of others at an early age (especially the needs of our neighbors right down the street from us). I want him to grow up knowing he is blessed and to be grateful to God for all he has.

I am always so humbled by the people we meet at SoupMobile. This time, I met a man named Daniel who has been trying to get home to his family in Nicaragua for years. Some of the stories I hear are completely heartbreaking, but it always amazes me to see how truly blessed these individuals feel. They express such joy and gratitude for every little thing they have–and it is incredibly humbling to experience.

If you are interested in giving or serving with SoupMobile, I want to encourage you to get involved! It only costs $5 per month to be a member of the SoupMobile Dream Team (a very small amount of money can make a huge difference in the life of a homeless person right here in our own community). They are always in need of volunteers and donations! You can get plugged in through their website or drop donations off at this address:

I love to serve with SoupMobile because it really reminds me of how blessed so many of us are to simply have a safe home and a warm bed to sleep in at night. I want to thank all the ladies who came out to serve our homeless community with my family this weekend! I hope you were as blessed as I was to have breakfast with Jesus and some incredible new friends!
