ball|bôl| noun a formal social gathering for dancing: It was a beautiful ball for a wonderful cause.

Field and I were honored to chair the 2019 Big Brothers Big Sisters Big Black Tie Ball again this year for the Lone Star Branch of Greater Dallas. We love this organization, its staff, founders, mentors, and all the children and youth who are being impacted every day because volunteers are stepping in to make a difference in their lives through mentorship. It’s always wonderful to see the members of our Dallas community come together to raise awareness for such an important cause!

I look forward to the Big Black Tie Ball every year because I know nights like this change lives for the better. These nights are pivotal moments for the future and well-being of the children and youth living within our communities. And I believe there is no better time to support an organization like Big Brothers Big Sisters—an organization determined and capable of providing the healing, restoration, and support that our youth so desperately need.

Not long ago, I saw a video that went viral of a teenage boy in Parkrose, Oregon who brought a loaded gun to his high school, determined to end his life and quite possibly the lives of many of his classmates. But before he could, he was stopped by his football coach who lovingly convinced him to drop his weapon. The coach immediately embraced the student, and video footage shows the student collapsing into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably. When interviewed by reporters, the coach said, “I just wanted to let him know that I was there for him, and that this is a life worth living.”Gratitude exploded for the coach who was willing to embrace this teenage boy during his darkest moment.

What could have been another tragic mass school shooting was miraculously stopped because of the willingness of one hero to step into the pain of a child in need. The truth is, there are children and youth living right here, in Dallas, Texas, who are in great need of a mentor, teacher, or coach like the one who embraced this boy.

As a parent, this reality could raise a lot of fear in our hearts. But I’m choosing to have faith instead. I have faith that by supporting organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters, our children will have a better, and safer future ahead of them.I believe that by partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters the children and youth living within our nation in need of strong mentors will no longer feel the desperation that pushes them to acts of violence. But rather, they will discover their God-given potential and realize that this life is indeed worth living.

I believe that investing in a child’s life not only impacts the child—it has the power to transform cities, nations, and the world at large. As parents, business owners, and leaders within the Dallas community—we are passionate about mentoring our children and youth—our cities’ next generation of parents, business owners, and future leaders. And no one does that better than Big Brothers Big Sisters.Their mission to make every child matter is why we’ve been proud supporters of this organization for years. And the excellence by which they carry out their vision is why we will be proud supporters of BBBS for years to come.

I want to thank every person who came out to support Big Brothers Big Sisters with us! Thank you to each person who gave financially and to those who give of their time each week, making a difference in the lives of the beautiful children and youth they serve. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!

XO-

Sabrina
