Being Patient

patience |ˈpeɪʃ(ə)ns|

noun [ mass noun ]

1 the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious: you can find bargains if you have the patience to sift through the rubbish | I have run out of patience with her.

Patience is something everyone has to learn and develop in their lives. In this day and age, everything is so easily accessible in a matter of seconds. We live in a society where anything we want can be given or brought to us in a moment. One of my favorite apps right now is called Favor. This is where everyday errands such as groceries or dry cleaning pickup, can be delivered to you at the click of a button. It is so convenient, especially when you don’t have the time to run to the store.

However, when it comes to our relationship with God, most of the time, things don’t happen right away. I have seen time and time again, people who just give up on their destiny because they got tired of waiting on God. Or, when things get tough, they lose their faith in God because He isn’t working according to their schedule. If only they would just wait patiently on what God is doing. Their miracle was on the way.

Hebrews 6:12 says “By practice of patient endurance and waiting, we inherit God’s promises in life.”
The writer of Hebrews is telling you that your season of waiting isn’t keeping you from Gods best – its actually preparing you for God’s best.

Remember, through faith and patience we inherit His promises. Trust His Word, trust His timing, and trust that your answer is on its way! Focus your thoughts on what God’s Word says about waiting on the Lord and persevering. Stand firm in faith.

The season of waiting in your life is a time of strengthening and equipping. God isn’t postponing His promises, He’s preparing you for them! Sometimes the Lord has work to accomplish in us before we are ready to handle the blessings He has planned for our future. Waiting helps strengthen us spiritually. Christian maturity becomes evident in the ability to wait in peaceful confidence, trusting that in God’s perfect time, we will know what to do.

If impatience tempts you to jump ahead of the Lord’s timing, you risk stepping outside of His will and missing His blessings. But by waiting until He gives clear direction, you will walk in His peace with certainty, instead of stumbling around in anxiety and confusion. Don’t ever give up on God. He is faithful. Be confident that He who began a good work in you will carry it on until it is complete.

Psalm 37:7-9
“Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper—it only leads to harm. For the wicked will be destroyed, but those who trust in the Lord will possess the land.” (NLT)

Psalm 40:1
“I waited patiently for the LORD; He turned to me and heard my cry.” (NIV)

Galatians 6:9
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (NIV)

James 5:7-8
“Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.” (NIV)

Father, today we declare that we trust You. We trust Your faithfulness. We trust Your goodness. We know that You are working things out in our favor and in Your timing. We declare that through faith and patience we will inherit every promise You have for us in Jesus’ name. Amen!
