mother |ˈmʌðə|noun 1 a woman in relation to a child or children to whom she has given birth: She loved being a mother.

Wishing a very Happy Mother’s Day to each and every mommy out there–especially to my very own, Veronica Guerra. Te quiero mucho!

I hope you are all celebrating with your families, children, flowers and some extra pampering today. You deserve it! My kids woke me up early with breakfast in bed and handmade cards with drawings (Camilla’s “drawings” are more like little squiggly lines, but I’ve always loved abstract art).

Life is all about who we surround ourselves with on the journey, and I am so grateful for the loves of my life that I get to call my very own.

Motherhood is such a beautiful gift, worthy of celebration. I was honored to be featured in the May 2017 edition of Modern Luxury this month in the Modern Mom’s article celebrating working women, successfully balancing their careers, home life and motherhood. You can find my article on page 114!

I love that Modern Luxury took the time to highlight “modern” mothers who pursue passions and businesses of their own, while still keeping motherhood and family as their number one priority. I am, and will always be, a business woman and entrepreneur at heart. I look up to women, like my own mother, who successfully balance and manage their business and home life with ease and grace. When you add philanthropic outreaches and personal goals to the mix, to say that “modern mothers” have our hands full would be the understatement of the century!

Yet no matter how busy I become, if the foundation for my family was not grounded in our faith in Jesus Christ, I know that we would not be where we are today.

“Start your children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6

I learned great faith from the great faith displayed for me by my own mother. She was a single mother, raising our family while going to school for her master’s degree, all while working full time. Though she was stretched thin, she never gave part-time effort to any of her responsibilities. I was always amazed that she could be so present with each of these avenues.

Even when we have great examples of mothers to look up to, motherhood is not easy. A lot of the “work” we have to do as mothers can seem mundane, insignificant or draining in moments–but I assure you, that every moment you spend with your children is shaping their character and future. You are helping to create a legacy, each and every day. I can only hope to be a fraction of the kind of selfless, caring and nurturing mother that I was so blessed to have.

“From everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children…” Psalm 103:17

Now, though I am writing an encouragement and blessing for the celebration of mothers today, I am well aware and sensitive to the fact that there are many women out there who may be experiencing loss, grief and disappointment from unmet hopes and dreams today. My heart is with each and every one of you. Praying for you and standing with you in this seemingly dark and empty space in your life. I believe in hope everlasting and redemption for all things. Read Her Story: Quiana Grant Pinckney from our last Equipped by Faith gathering if you are struggling in this area. I know it will bring your heart encouragement today!

Be strong and courageous today. You are beautifully fierce!

Happy Mother’s Day!
