Relationships depend greatly on the amount of time that you spend with someone. When relationships are struggling, we often hear members of the opposite parties saying, “we just don’t spend enough time together anymore” or “they just don’t know me anymore”. Knowing someone comes from spending time with them. It comes from caring for them, learning their interests and just enjoying being by their side.

Gaining a deeper connection with God is exactly the same. We can’t expect our relationship to grow with God without spending time with Him. We can get to know the heart of our Father by praying, reading His word and daily living out the example He has set for us through the scriptures in the Bible.

A Life of Prayer
I love prayer. I love how it connects me to the heart of my Father. I believe in the power of prayer and the impact that it has on our lives and the lives of those around us.

I think we often forget to make prayer a part of our everyday lives. We remember to pray when situations in our lives become difficult, when we are afraid or when we need something.

But, what if we choose to live a life of prayer, each and every day–all day long? Prayer isn’t just about telling God what YOU need. It is offering worship, thanksgiving and gratitude to the One who created you and gives you life each day.

Living a life of prayer means waking up each morning thanking the God who made you for another day on this earth. It is reminding yourself throughout the day that He is good, and that He loves you and wants good things for you (Romans 8:28). It means not being anxious about anything, but through prayer and thanksgiving making your requests known to God (Philippians 4:6-8). It means laying your head down on your pillow at night, letting go of all anger, resentment and fear–trusting that God will take care of you.

Living a life of prayer is a never-ending conversation between you and the Lord. It is recognizing that He walks with you throughout your day–as a constant reminder that He is with you.

I have an alarm set on my phone that goes off each day at noon to remind me to bow my head to pray. No matter where I am, or who I am with, I will stop what I am doing and pray specifically for whatever it is that we were talking about or doing. This has become such an incredible part of my day, because I am usually in meetings at this time–and it allows me to pray with members of my team for things that are weighing on their hearts and mine. It reminds me that God is in control of my life, and that all that I do is for Him, and for His glory.

Reading The Bible
I think we would be surprised if we were all really honest about how much “Christians” actually read the Bible. Our lives are extremely busy with work, kids, school, spouses, friends, events.. the list goes on and on. But, no matter how busy my life becomes, Field and I have made a decision to make time to read the Bible each day–no matter what.

The Bible is filled with wisdom for daily life. I am confident that I am living a life of blessing and abundance because I daily submit myself and my family to the Word of God. I often pray the Word of God over my life and my family. I’ve watched and experienced physical and emotional healing through the Word of God. It is real, and powerful. I can’t live one day without it!

Most of us have grown up hearing Bible stories, but if you have never read the Bible for yourself–I encourage you to do so! God will speak to you through His Word. The stories and scriptures will speak to your heart and give you wisdom for your life. The words will draw you closer to Him, and strengthen your relationship with the God who made you.

The scriptures were inspired by God and written to help Christians understand the heart of our Father. He is loving, just and kind–full of mercy, power, understanding and truth. Make a goal to read a chapter of the Bible each day, and watch how God begins to transform your mind, emotions and overall life.

It’s miraculous–and so, incredibly freeing.

Pray this: “Dear God, I am amazed that you care so deeply for my life. I want to learn how to live a life of prayer, and constantly converse with you. Help me to spend time with you each day through reading your Word and praying. Help me to be thankful for what you have done in my life, and what you are going to do in my future. I want to know you more each day, and depend on you to take care of all my needs, fear for the future and worries for today. I want to live a life of thankfulness and gratitude, forever. Please bless my family, friends and those I interact with. Help me to be a peacemaker and to bring hope and joy to every situation I encounter. I love you, Lord. In your name I pray, Amen.”

I’ve always loved the song, “Oceans” by Hillsong.
The chorus says:
“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders,
Let me walk upon the waters, wherever You would call me.
Take me deeper than my faith could ever wander,
And my faith would be made stronger in the presence of my Savior.”

Hope it blesses you!
